The film begins in 1987, when Mike, a Don Ho impersonator, refuses to perform as anyone other than himself at the Wisconsin State Fair. Claire, a hairdresser and part-time performer, suggests he pursue a Neil Diamond act, sparking both a romantic and professional partnership.
